sleep on average five hours or less per night are at risk for center weighted fat – the kind of fat that attaches itself to the midsection. While a few extra pounds might not sound that bad, the fat most commonly associated with the sleep-deprived population is called visceral fat. Brenda Lee Reed says that the added sugar in sodas and fruit juices adds more than just sweetness to the average diet. Hence, the overwhelming number of early diabetes cases filtering into the American health care system.
Instead, Brenda Lee Reed suggests drinking plenty of the most abundant liquid on Earth: water. Water saturates the cells, making cellular rejuvenation easier on the body. And, it flushes out other toxins picked up from the environment. Replacing one soda a day with H2O can save a person approximately 54,750 calories per year. Doing the math, that’s over 27 pounds in 12 months, points out Brenda Lee Reed.
Think diet soda is a viable alternative? Maybe on occasion, as a treat, but Brenda Lee Reed says that these sugar-tasting impostors posing as a healthy replacement are, in fact, not. Drinking diet soda can interrupt the brain’s ability to process caloric intake. This intensifies cravings for sweets and can lead to poor dietary choices.
Find Fats and Feel Fine
Brenda Lee Reed makes a point to educate guests at Genesis Healing Center on the importance of consuming fats. Sticking with healthy fats, such as Omega-3s, monounsaturated fats, and even saturated fats, is the key. Avoid trans fats. Brenda Lee Reed says that trans fats are not naturally occurring and therefore a big shock to the body when consumed. Hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated fats are like tiny little serial killers that attack the arteries from all angles. Too many of these fats – which are found in processed foods like cookies and donuts and in fried foods – may also increase the risk for diabetes, which increases the body’s risk for a number of other maladies, including circulatory stress.
Brenda Lee Reed says that the Golden Rule of Health is this: Do unto your body what you want your body to unto you. In other words, fuel it well and it will drive you through a long, happy, and healthy life.
